Artist Spotlight: Gabby B Tribe Mafia interview "Gabby B" "Loot" "Londynn B" "Tribe Mafia"
Artist Spotlight: Gabby B

South America’s Gabriela Bueno, better known as Gabby B. Without a doubt has earned the spot online for the best preserved reputation on pop culture. Gabby B was born in Goiania, Goias, Brazil and was raised in Avignon, France.  In 2019 the Brazilian singer was known most for phenomenal tracks like “Under My Skin,” “To Que To,” and “Till The Sun Turns Up,” which flaunts her gift for gentle yet pungent lyrics. One minute, she’s warbling her way through a up-tempo dance song, and the next she is unleashing a downhill sprint of quotable verses, that may often be used for Instagram Captions.

The rising pop star has also been featured on a plethora amount of notable sources such as “Rolling Out,” “Sheen Magazine,” “HipHop DX,” “Respect Mag” and “Essentially Pop” just to list a few. Voyaging with the buzz of success, Gabby B debuted #8 on the Digital Radio Tracker Global Charts, with her song “Loot,” featuring the Netflix’s Rhythm and Flow star, Londynn B.

There's a real science to defend how music can affect your overall mood. Gabby B is a perfect candidate for that claim. The rising pop star has quite the fan-base on TikTok, currently standing with over 739.8 thousand followers and over 4 million likes. On the application Gabby B gives her fans a welcoming approach to let loose, be happy and dance. Gabby B seems like the next in the lineage of pop stars like Alina Baraz, King Princess, or Kali Uchis. Gabby has a very distinctive flair, with poise and insight that is ahead of her 20 years of life. Gabby’s family tree comes from a great line up of entertainment. It’s obscure just what the 20-year-old artist has in store for 2020, but it appears likely this will be the last year the Brazilian Barbie will be the best kept secret.

Check out my exclusive in-depth interview with the South American singer, Gabby B.

Zulia Barrios: Hi Gabby B, it is such a pleasure to be able to conduct this interview with you. I have listened to the majority of your songs, and now I am craving and demanding more work. You have such a captivating voice that clearly matches the charisma and energy you produce to your fans on a day-to-day basis via Instagram and TikTok. How did you enter the realm of entertainment?

Gabby B: Hi Zulia, thank you very much for the kind words. My background in entertainment started when I was little. I was always watching my parents perform on stage; my mother is a Samba dancer, and my father is a martial arts teacher specializing in Capoeira. Since then, I have always wanted to work in the entertainment industry in some form. It wasn’t until I was 18 when I officially started my music career. I began by doing cover songs and making them into short music videos. After doing a few of those, my manager and I decided it was time to take it to the next level and we recorded my song “Como Te Llamas.” This was not my first release but it was the first song I ever recorded, which took place in Atlanta.

ZB: Wow that is amazing! I have to say "Como Te Llamas" is one of my personal favorites.  I love your name Gabby B, it is uncomplicated. How did you get your name Gabby B? Another name you go by that I find very interesting is “Brazilian Barbie.” How did you get the name Brazilian Barbie? What do these two names mean to you?

GB: Gabby B is simply short for my full name Gabriela Bueno. Almost everyone calls me Gabby, so it made sense to use what sticks. As for Brazilian Barbie, that comes from my Brazilian roots and my passion for Barbies. I was born in Brazil and most of my family still lives there today. Even though I didn’t live there long, I will always carry that culture in me, and I love representing my country. Before I moved to the U.S., I had over 300 Barbie dolls. They are just something that has inspired me and got me through the most difficult moments growing up. Not only the dolls, but all of the songs and movies were literally my childhood! Putting those two themes together is basically how the name came to be.

ZB: Fascinating! I have never had that many Barbie dolls. However, I do have that many unicorn stuffed animals. They too got me through some of my hardships growing up. Getting back into your music before we lose track of time talking about Barbie dolls and unicorns. In your interview with FanSided you emphasize the meaning of your music video “Loot” and mention that the lesson behind the video is, “be careful how you treat others because one day the rules might reverse.” What was your most challenging life experience, musically? How did you overcome this situation?

GB: The challenges I have gone through would be more on the business side. You must have people that you trust, understand, and have professional knowledge in contracts and business-related issues. People in the music business can be very deceiving. You need to be able to trust your team, and trust the fact that they are doing everything with your best intentions in mind. I have dealt with some of the wrong people already early on in my career. However, my team and I overcame this by learning more about the business and keeping our circle close.

ZB: I understand that 100%! Some people in the music business can be very sneaky, so it is best at times to keep your circle small. You and Londynn B really brought the house down with the song “Loot!” That’s a song that could be both an anthem for girls in power, and today's ambiguity in the world's situation. I would love to know how did you and Londynn B meet? Is there any chance that we can be expecting another feature with you and the critically acclaimed Rhythm + Flow artist Londynn B?

GB: I was actually watching the show she was on, “Rhythm + Flow.” She caught my eye because of her personality and her vibe. I could tell she was someone who I would want to work with on this track I had already made called “Loot.” I then told my management team about her; they agreed that we should reach out for a collab. Londynn's team agreed, so we ended up meeting in Miami to film the music video. In the future, I would be open to other collabs with Londynn B. She was great to work with and had a fun personality.

ZB: In your latest video “Fine,” I found it very entertaining to watch. Song wise, I was riveted by the variation of the total production; the poised composition and message was tendered delightfully. You and Devvon Terrell really dropped the mic with this one, well done! What was the vision of the song and creative process for the making of the music video?

Quotable Line: “Make my body wine like Reggae, couple Brandy shots, no Ray J.”

 Fine, Gabby B, Devvon Terrell

GB: When it comes to the songs that I put out, I envision beforehand what the video would look like and what the entire concept would be like. I like to tell a story that goes along with each song, and I like to act in that story as if I was living in it. For the song and video of “Fine,” all I could picture was sweatiness, sexy vibes, with lots of dancing. I tried to symbolize each lyric with every move that I made. A lot of credit also deserves to go to the director, DC Coles. He had the main ideas and storyline for the video, and I added my Brazilian flare into it.

ZB: In your latest project “Therapy” you open a lot on personal and relatable life experiences with relationships (past/present) and partying with friends. What is your favorite song on the project? What influenced you to create this project?

GB: To me, it depends on how I am feeling at the time. Each song on “Therapy” has such a completely different vibe. If I want to dance or if I’m feeling excited, I will listen to “Till the Sun Turns Up” or “Como Te Llamas.” If I’m in my feelings, I would listen to “How You Know” or “All Yours.” The different stories in each song made me want to put them all together and name it “Therapy.” It connects with the emotions and it’s something that everyone needs. If you noticed, I purposely put the songs in order of what they talk about, for the whole EP to tell a story.

ZB: Wow that is truly amazing! That is a very clever way to organize a project. You have such an amazing catalog that is sure to keep your listeners engaged and listening to every unique track that you create. Did you know even the mainstream artists we listen to daily come across with an underrated song. What is a song that you made and believe is being “slept on?” Which song do you feel needs more attention, in your own opinion?

GB: That definitely would be “Como Te Llamas.” This song was one that my team and I felt could be very big. We still think it has the potential to do big things. The vibes that it gives off for me are great, it just makes me want to dance!

ZB: Oh wow! I would have never guessed that. “Como Te Llamas” is a very great song you have created, so it surprises me that it is underrated. Let’s talk secrets! What is something that the world does not know about Gabby B?

GB: One thing people may not know about me is that I’m actually really shy in social situations. I have a major fear of phone calls. I prefer in person conversations, but on stage I turn into a different person. Crazy enough, I feel more comfortable when I’m performing rather than being in simple conversations. I guess you can say Gabby B is my alter ego.

ZB: I really admire that you make songs in Spanish/Portuguese and in English! YOU GO GIRL! What song would you recommend to first time listeners?

GB: That’s a tough one because it may depend on the style of music that the person likes, since my songs are very diverse. However, if you want to dive into my culture and hear me sing in the first language that I ever knew, you should listen to “To Que To.” This song is very meaningful to me because my mom wrote it many years ago, and now I get the chance to sing it.

ZB: Wow that is amazing! I will definitely listen to it! In your opinion, what separates you from other rising artists trying to make it in the music profession?

GB: In my opinion, what separates me from other artists, is my personality. Everybody has different personalities and unique ways of representing themselves. For me, I think my advantage lies here because of the way I am. I bring positive energy everywhere I go, and put it into everything I do. For example, during my performances I go all out to put on a show. I use every ounce of my stamina in my dance moves, and spread my happiness to everyone who is watching.

ZB: If you could collaborate with anyone in the world (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

"Gabby B" "JLo" "Gabby B inspiration" "bruno mars" "britney spears"

GB: This is always a tough question because there are a lot of people I would love to collaborate with. To name a few, they would have to be Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Demi Lovato, Bruno Mars, Jlo. All of these artists had a big impact in my life at some point. Performing with any of them would be a life changing experience.

ZB: How has the covid-19 affected your business in music? How are you practicing social distancing?

GB: The situation with Covid-19 has been very unfortunate for so many people and so many families. Its effects have been much deeper than anything that I am going through. However, it has affected me in the sense that all performances we had planned in the future are paused. Many travel plans have been postponed where I would have been doing interviews, recording, meetings, and much more. My daily activities now highly consist of social media. I have been able to really connect with my fans and gain tons of new supporters. All interviews I have been doing are either through Zoom or Instagram Live. Overall, the situation has been really tough for everybody, and I just hope everyone is staying safe and keeping their distances.

ZB: In the midst of what is happening in today's society, how are you holding up to your political status as a musical influencer? Do you have any words of encouragement or anything to say about the people in America protesting and rioting? What is your view on #GeorgeFloyd and #BlackLivesMatter?

GB: I think it’s a very sad situation. George Floyd should’ve never died that way! That is not how anyone should treat a human being. We should keep fighting for the right to treat people equally and with respect, no matter what their skin color is. Black lives do matter and it is about time we make change happen for the better of our country. That is why I will continue to share my support through my social media outlets, because I know how important it is for me to spread the message in any way I can.

ZB: What more can we expect from Gabby B in 2020?

GB: Before this year ends, I hope to be releasing an album called “Troublemaker.” Due to all of the situations going on, this may or may not be possible. Either way, I will continue to create content for my fans and entertain them the best I can, digitally. I have a new Gabby B Official website that is now open, featuring my music, videos, blogs, and a whole ton of cool merch. Kissies!!

ZB: Thank you Gabby B for letting me conduct this interview, it has truly been a blessing! I look forward to hearing new content from you. I also will be on the lookout for your new merch! Stay safe and keep practicing social distance!

We will definitely be seeing more of Gabby B in 2020. I wouldn’t be surprise if the pop star was seen performing at the next Super Bowl alongside Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez or Shakira!
